Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a parenting program for improving theattachment and interaction between mothers and infants from multicultural families. The programis constructed by applying the principles of play activities and the educational contents based onthe strength perspective of family resiliency. Targeting multicultural mothers of infants aged 13to 24 months, and who are living in Chungbuk (7 couples in the experimental group, 7 couplesin the control group), the program was carried out in a total of 12 sessions. Each sessionconsisted of one hour of theoretical learning and 30 minutes of play activity.According to the results of the study, there was no significant difference in the results of thecontrol group, but the mothers in the experimental group showed a significant improvement intheir satisfaction with the parent-child relationship, interaction with the infant, and attachmentstability. Thus, through a program aimed at strengthening the parental role through infants' playactivities, mothers from multicultural families were able to realize their parenting style and tochange their parenting behavior to be more positive. Those results demonstrate the effectivenessof the program. Based on the results, several practical significances and suggestions forimproving the parental roles of multicultural mothers were discussed.
