The major findings of this study are as follows: First, there are meaningful differences betweenthe family type, marital condition, marital maintenance period and the generic families. Thedifferences of personality characteristics between these two groups showed that the low-incomefamilies was lower than the average of generic families and the difference appearedsignificant(t=-6.326***). The difference of marital conflict between these two groups showed thatthe low-income families was higher than the average of generic families, and the differenceappeared to be significant(t=6.284***). Second, economic status has a positive influence(t=6.326***)on personality characteristics and a negative influence(t=-6.284***) on marital conflict. Thepersonality characteristics affecting economic status and the consequential marital conflict wereshown to be partial mediator effects.
